Fenn Likes Bugs & Spiders

Now that summer is here, Fenn's school has all kinds of fun activities planned. Today, Ijams Nature Center of Knoxville did a presentation about bugs and spiders and brought along some real live ones for the kids to see. I was running a few minutes late getting there, so I missed the best part. The Ijams representative pulled out a tarantula! I'm told that while most of the kids were backing away, Fenn was reaching up and trying to grab it. He actually got hold of one of its legs! Perhaps this is a glimpse into our future. Fenn will be bringing all kinds of little creatures into the house. Let's just hope he never asks to have a tarantula for a pet! They showed the kids several other unusual bugs and spiders, and Fenn seemed to be more curious than some of the other kids. That's Miss Bettina with Fenn in the first photo. She was his teacher in his last classroom. We hope she's still there when Boone gets to the Creepers room, but she's getting married this fall so I wonder if she'll end up moving. Her fiance' is in the marines.

During the show, Fenn decided to get up and entertain the whole class. This was actually one of the 2-year old classrooms and they had the kids from two or three classes in there for the show.At the end of the show, they had a display set up for the kids to check out. Fenn went straight for the plastic spiders!
